Mira Sorvino
This Oscar-winning actress graduated with a Major in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from Harvard. Her studies took her to Beijing where she lived for eight years, mastering the Mandarin language, and writing a Hoopes Prize-winning thesis on racial conflict in China. Woody Allen cast her in “Mighty Aphrodite”, for which she won an Oscar.

The commanding general of Combined Forces Command Afghanistan speaks "pretty fluent" Mandarin Chinese and once served as the U.S. military attaché in Beijing. Eikenberry's understanding of other cultures gained through his language training has proven a valuable asset during the general's present duty in Afghanistan. 
  James Shinn (白宮國安會亞洲事務主任)
Mr Shinn is a Visiting Professor at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, where he teaches courses on technology and foreign policy. Previously he worked in the U.S. State Department's East Asia Bureau and was later a general manager, entrepreneur, and outside director for fifteen years in the high tech industry.

Mr Randt was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to China on July 17, 2001. He is a lawyer fluent in Chinese Mandarin, and has lived and worked in Asia for more than 20 years. He was resident in Beijing from 1982 through 1984 where he served as First Secretary and Commercial Attaché at the U.S. Embassy and has lived in Hong Kong for more than 15 years, most recently as a partner with an international law firm. He is a member of the New York and Hong Kong bars and is a recognized expert on Chinese law.
After preparing at the Hotchkiss School, Mr. Randt graduated from Yale University in 1968 and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan in 1975. He also attended the Harvard Law School where he was awarded the East Asia Legal Studies Traveling Fellowship to China.
