Pre-K Age 4

Zhong

Stimulate interest in learning Chinese; familiarize with learning environment; Train basic listening and speaking skills through knowing Zhuyin and Pinyin.

Basic materials teacher designed. Supp. :  Zhuyin & Pinyin cards, icons, etc.

37 symbols of Zhuyin & Pinyin;  Chinese to communicate in classroom; Stories; Song and dance; Simple Arts & crafts.

 

Age 5 and over and interest in learning Chinese.

Xiao/Pinyin

Emphasize Pinyin, simplified Chinese characters, spelling, learn some commonly used words, phrases; introduce story telling from pictures.

Kindergarten stories, children songs; reading materials

Pinyin - spelling ; writing; remembering. Simple and daily used words, song and dance, simple and easy poems with pictures for reading. 

Age 6 and up; interest in learning Chinese.

 

Xiao/Zhuyin Emphasize Zhuyin. traditional Chinese characters, spelling, and 4 tones;learn some commonly used words, phrases; introduce story telling from pictures. Kindergarten stories, children songs; reading materials Zhuyins- pelling ; writing; remembering. Simple and daily used words, song and dance, simple and easy poems with pictures for reading.  Age 6 and up; interest in learning Chinese.

Ren/Pinyin

 

100 simplified Chinese characters words. Make up sentences with given words.   Standard Chinese (First Level, Volume 1 and 2), nursery rhymes, tongue twisters, short poems.   Conversations in stores; talking about food, vacations, gift, schools, holidays; conversation to make appointments, invite guests and host a party.   Age 7 and up, can read some simple words.  

Ren/Zhuyin

80 traditional Chinese characters, words, Storytelling from pictures; practice phrases, short sentences.

Huayu Book I 

supp.: children stories; video tapes; SHW*.

Zhuyin - brief review; practice the order of strokes; phrases  & sentence re-constructions; body parts; weather; Book I vocabularies; Book A&B. 

Age 7 and up; Knows Zhuyin.

 

 

 

Ai

120 words; Introduce radicals and their meanings; Train the thinking and expressing in Chinese; Learn to use conjunctions.

Huayu Book II

supp.:

stories; video tapes; SHW.

Phrases, sentences patterns; counting units; appellations; conjunctions; Book II vocabularies; Book A&B

 

Age 8 and up; knows Zhuyin & Book I.

 

 

Xin

100 words; introduce the dictionary; use conjunctions in sentences.

Huayu Book III

supp.: dictionary; stories; tapes; SHW.

How to use dictionary; sentence patterns; stroke orders; addressing of family &  relatives; subjects & interests; Book III and A&B.

Age 9 and up; knows how to make phrases & sentences, & Book II.

Yi

110 words; practice use of dictionary; use conjunctions in paragraphs or story telling; introduce Chinese writing style Qi-Cheng-Zhuan-He; reading materials.

Huayu Book IV

supp.: Idiom stories, children newspapers, short stories to read; videos; SHW.

Question & answer in length; synonyms, antonyms, similar pronunciation words, counting units, verbs, conjunctions; simple Chinese geography; letters; Book IV and A&B.

Age 10 and up; knows how to make compound sentences; &  Book III.

Special

Stimulate interest in learning Chinese; familiarize with learning environment and simple new words; train to comprehend simple Chinese; to be placed in regular class when ready.

Huayu Book I & II   

supp.: Zhuyin cards, stories, songs, poems.

Zhuyin - spelling, writing; simple words -reading, writing, pronunciation, sentence patterns, phrasing making; Book I & A&B.

Enroll at the older age (7 and up) and no previous knowledge of Chinese.

He

120 words; use conjunctions in short essays; emphasize composition; practice alternative writing of  sentences: introduce Chinese history; training of speech; writing short skits

Huayu Book V

Supp. :

History stories;  newspaper clips; several ancient Chinese History books; SHW*.

 

Pinyin system; the Chinese punctuation; the logic system in creating Chinese characters, the antonyms, synonyms, & roots of words, sentence pattern practice in Book V & A&B; history from Huang Di to Qin Dynasty.

Age 11 and up; basic skill in writing Chinese short Essays and/or finished Book IV.

 

Ping

115 words;  concentrate on  memorizing ability, Chinese history, speech, pronunciation, leadership vs. team work

Group discussions and written reports about trips, movies, reading from books, newspaper articles; studies of content in Book VII & VIII; history from Yuan to mid-Qing Dynasties.

Age 13 and up; finished Huayu Book VI; interests in Chinese history

 

Lian

150 words; graduation speech; calligraphy (two page)  .

 

Integrated Chinese Level 1 part 2  and Huayu Book IX & X   9,10,11,12 Selectively

supp.: History stories; 

 

AP Chinese and SAT II preparations;   Chinese Modern history (Yuan, Ming, Qing till 1949)

Age 14 and up; equivalent finished Integrated Chinese Level 1 part 1 or Hanyu book VIII.   Interests in Chinese philosophy and literature.

*SHW = Summer homework

Footnote:

Transfer students:  After the interview with principals and the permission from the teacher of the class,

students will go through a trial period of full day classes to determine their suitability,

then transfer is granted.                        

Passing the grade:  Students must go through a summer school (individual or small group studies) and

prepare to pass the exam** in order to start the new grade in the fall.

Skip a grade:  Only if the older student has joined us with a sincere commitment of attending a summer

school or private lessons to prepare for the passing exam** (requires a score of  70/100) in the fall.

Calligraphy:  Before the graduation, at least a year of Chinese calligraphy class starting Her class.

Graduation requirement: 

        1)  Finish the curriculum

        2) two pages of Chinese calligraphy

        3) prepare and  present a graduation speech.  

Exams** will be given at the first day of the school in the fall one hour before the classes started.
